Arthur "Bambi" Matthew Jr. Martinez

Matthew (Matt) passed away unexpectedly June 25th 2026. Matt was born in Embudo, NM, and grew up as a kid in Pueblo, CO and moved to Taos in 1975, where he graduated High School.

Matt enlisted in the United States Army after High School, where he served his country and was honorably discharged, a couple of years later.

Matt worked in construction and made many friends along the way. Matt was a wild land firefighter, and he loved the mountains. Matt had talents few people knew about. He had an artistic talent and enjoyed painting and partook in different art projects. He especially liked to work and fix up bicycles.

Matt loved his children, grandchildren, family and many friends he made throughout his life.

Matt is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Jose Dilio & Cidelia Martinez, maternal grandparents Alfredo & Celina Romero, father Arturo “Homie” Martinez and mother Mina Fernandez, brother Luke Martinez and infant brother Mark Martinez, his nephew Antonio Martinez, uncles Harry Martinez, Herbert Martinez, Orlando Martinez, and Mike Romero. Aunts Eva Gonzales, Francis Casanova and Mary Martinez.

Matt is survived by his children, son Marcus (Maria) Martinez.  Grandchildren Caitlyn (Seth), Marcus, Sophie and Joseph Martinez. Mother of his children Frances Williams. Sister Hope Martinez, brothers John Fernandez (Elaine), Paul Fernandez (Sonia), Norbert Fernandez Jr, and sister-in-law Monica Martinez. Special nephew whom he loved and spent a lot of time with Lorenzo “Lolo” Martinez, and many nephews and nieces. Special Aunt May Salazar. Special Primos Jacob Montoya and Robert Romero. Followed by many special loving aunts, uncles, cousins, family and friends.

Memorial Services will be held on Friday July 17th, at 10:00 am, in the Evergreen Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home of Taos.  A Celebration of life to follow at The Llano Quemado Community Center.
