Benjamin "Bennie" Martinez

It is with great sadness that we, the family of Benjamin “Bennie” Roland Martinez, a resident of Taos, New Mexico, announce his passing on the early evening of September 10, 2023, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, at the age of 71. Bennie was born in Taos, New Mexico on January 12, 1952. Bennie is preceded in death by his Mother Irene Lorraine Martinez, sister Sharon Marie Anderson, brother Tomas “Dirty Sal” Martinez, Grandpa and Grandma Elias and Agapita “Pita” Romero. Uncles Gilbert “Crow” Romero, Tim Romero, Michael Romero, Elias “Baby” Romero, his aunts Evangeline “Vangie” Robinson and Juanita Romero. He is survived by his daughter, Tara Mondragon Cortez (Art Cortez), granddaughter, Anastasia Mondragon (Draco Velarde), his uncle Ronnie Romero, and his beloved baby chihuahua, “Mi Amor” Martinez. Bennie was a happy, generous, selfless soul. He spent much of his life working construction with his grandpa and uncles, cooking with Taos Catering, and working at the service deli at Smith’s Food and Drug. After retiring he spent much of his time with his beloved pet, Mi Amor, with his daughter, granddaughter, and extended family. He enjoyed fishing the Rio Grande, eating spicy foods, and family get-togethers. He has left a void that cannot be filled. Memorial Service will be held on Sunday October 8, 2023 at 2pm in the Evergreen Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home of Taos.
