Carlos Felimon Romero, 73, a beloved resident of Canon, passed away peacefully at his home on April 14, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born on March 3, 1953, Carlos lived a life rooted in devotion to his family, his community, and his work. A man of quiet strength, unwavering values, and a generous heart, he left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Carlos is reunited in eternal rest with his parents, Felimon and Octaviana Romero, as well as his beloved in-laws, Fidel and Eva Garcia.
He leaves behind his greatest love and partner of 52 years, his wife, Martha Romero, whose life was beautifully intertwined with his. Together, they built a family that became Carlos’s proudest accomplishment.
He is lovingly remembered by his children, Valerie Braswell (Michael) and Matthew Romero (Adriana), and by his cherished grandchildren his pride and joy Tyler Valencia (Cielo), Zak Braswell (Yamileth), and Jennica Romero. His legacy continues through his precious great-granddaughter, Aurelia Meadow Valencia.
Carlos is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Rita Guillen and Patty Garcia (Everett); his many beloved nieces and nephews Mario Jeantette, Marcos Jeantette (Tiffany), Joseph Garcia (Sheila), Kianna Jeantette, Evangeline Jeantette Mario Jeantette, Enzo-Jett Jeantette Delilah Gallegos, and Zayd Garcia; as well as special cousins who held a meaningful place in his life: Joyce King, Patricia Quintana, Elena Archuleta, Maggie Sisneros, and Dorothy Sisneros.
Carlos was widely known and respected in his community as a dedicated educator with Taos Municipal Schools, where he shaped young minds and inspired countless students. He also served honorably as a bailiff for the 8th Judicial Court, carrying himself with integrity and professionalism. Whether in the classroom or the courtroom, Carlos was a man people trusted, admired, and looked up to.
Above all, Carlos will be remembered for his deep love of family, his steady presence, and the quiet wisdom he shared. His laughter, guidance, and unconditional love will be deeply missed but forever carried in the hearts of those who knew him.
Funeral service will be held on Thursday May 14, 2026 at 10am in the Evergreen Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home of Taos, with burial to follow at the Cañon Grace Brethren Cemetery.
