Christian Benjamin Mims, 21, a resident of Taos, NM along with his cousin Isaiah Cabrera 17, of Denver Colo, were killed in a car accident north of Walsenburg, CO. on June 29, 2026.

Christian truly lived life like the line from the song “Best of you” by the Foo Fighters. “Is someone getting the best, the best, the best, the best of you.” He loved his family and his friends and valued the precious time he spent with them, both in Denver and in Taos. Christian will be remembered for being able to lift anyone’s spirits. He was supportive, thoughtful, loyal, honest, compassionate, hardworking and always seemed to know what to say to you. He enjoyed drawing and watching movies and he was a fan of anime.

Christian was a jokester and enjoyed pranking his siblings and scaring his mom. He also lovingly helped care for them when needed, he was a pillar of strength to his special needs brother Angel.

He spent the last few months restoring a 1978 candy apple red Mercury Monarch with his cousin Isac. He was proud of the results and was excited to drive it to Denver.

His first job was at Baskin Robbins, where he overcame some of his shyness and revealed an outgoing, friendly and confident young man. He met and made many friends and lasting relationships there. Many customers enjoyed his smile and great personality, looking for him to make their treats. He was eager in preparing to move to Denver to work alongside his father Ernesto Bocanegra and learn a trade that he felt would be worthwhile.

Christian is survived by his mother Guillermina Cabrera- Torres, siblings Raquel, Taylor, & Angel, maternal grandmother Hilda Torres. Aunt Roxanne (+Andres), uncles Luis, Jose (Victoria), his special cousin Isac. He also leaves behind many friends, aunts, uncles, cousins and an extended family he was eager to reconnect with in Denver. Christian’s big smile will be greatly missed! You have given us the

BEST! Little did you know Christian, how important you are to us and what an impact you’ve had in OUR lives, rest in peace!
