Daniel Robin Arterburn, known affectionately as "Dulcimer Dan," passed away on June 25, 2025, at St. Vincent's Hospital in Santa Fe after an unexpected medical emergency. He was 80 years old. Daniel lived in his beloved, self-built home in El Rito/Latir, for 40 years. Born on February 6, 1945, in Sandwich, Illinois, Daniel lived a life rich in creativity, music, and quiet devotion.
Daniel's artistic journey began early, attending elementary school in Plano, Illinois. He furthered his education at St. Procopius College and the Art Institute of Chicago before earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of New Mexico. A self-taught master of stringed instruments, Daniel was not only a solo performer but also played in several musical groups, sharing his passion at bluegrass festivals across the country. His talents extended beyond performance; he was a renowned master builder of stringed instruments and a skilled woodworker, a craft beautifully exemplified by the home he meticulously constructed.
For 48 years, Daniel shared a deep and loving partnership with his wife, Pam. He was known for his kind, quiet, talented, and compassionate nature.
Daniel is survived by his devoted wife, Pam Arterburn; his brother, James David Arterburn (Doris); his sister, Mary Grace Arterburn Torres (Santos); his nephews James Eric Arterburn, Matthew Christopher Arterburn, Sebé Torres, Aaron Hailey, Adan Hailey, Ethan Hailey; and his niece Sophia Peterson.
A memorial to celebrate Daniel's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the GoFundMe page, "Support Pam Arterburn After Daniel's Passing" at https://gofund.me/3b4a6832 (gofundme.com) to assist with arrangements for Dan and support Pam during this time.
