David R. Trujillo, Sr.

David Rene Trujillo Sr. passed away peacefully at his home on January 24, 2026, at the age of 71, surrounded by the love of family and dear friends following a courageous and lengthy illness. His life was marked by warmth, generosity, laughter, devotion to family, and a profound appreciation for the beauty of God’s creations.

David Rene Trujillo Sr. was born on November 12, 1954, in San Antonio, Texas, to Manuel Arturo Trujillo and Josephine Ida Flores-Trujillo. He spent his early years in San Antonio, Texas, Salt Lake City, Utah, and Rosemead, California, before moving with his family to Taos as a teenager. There, David embraced his Native American and Spanish heritage, grew close to his many relatives, and found the place he would proudly call home for the rest of his life.

David was known throughout the Taos community for his gentle spirit, friendly smile, easygoing nature, and genuine ability to make others feel welcome. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army and served his country with honor at Fort Carson, Colorado.

After completing his military service, David returned to Taos, where he raised his family, built lasting friendships, and devoted himself to his work. Over the years, he served his community through positions at Taos Motors as a Sales Representative, Smith’s as a member of the Management Team, and El Monte Sagrado in Security. He retired in 2018, leaving behind the many coworkers and customers whose lives he touched with his kindness and steady presence.

David was a hardworking man whose care and pride could be seen in everything he did. His beautifully maintained and landscaped yard reflected both his skill and his love of the outdoors. He was always willing to lend a hand—whether repairing a fence, helping with a landscaping project, or assisting with whatever task someone needed done. His generosity was given freely, quietly, and with a good heart.

He found joy in the simple and meaningful things in life: creating art, working in the yard, hunting, fishing, hiking, riding his Harley and ATVs, dancing, listening to music, caring for animals, and exploring nature. David had a deep appreciation for the outdoors and for all the beautiful creations of God. He especially loved being surrounded by family, friends, laughter, and the enduring spirit of his Taos community.

David was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Manuel Arturo Trujillo and Josephine Ida Flores-Trujillo; his brother, Levi Trujillo; and his son, Jon Isaac Trujillo.

He is survived by his children, David Trujillo and wife Yvonne, beloved daughter, Lesha “Tru” Trujillo, and stepson Randy Dominguez; his grandchildren, Grand-Daughter, Miranda Garcia and partner, Dezmind, along with their daughter, (David’s great-grandbaby), Ailani; Grandson, Isaiah Trujillo and wife Miranda; Grandson, Isaac Trujillo and wife Lexi; Grandsons, Matthew Chavez; and Jon Dominguez.

He is also survived by his siblings, Art Trujillo and wife Bonnie, Marta Wood and husband Allen, Veronica Hernandez and husband Rick, Edwina Jensen and husband Greg, and Donna Trujillo (Sister-in-Law). David leaves behind many cherished nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Among those especially dear to his heart were his extended family and friends of Taos Pueblo; his lifelong friends, Lourdes Torrez and Floyd Ayala; dear friends Raul Vigil, Paul “Pudge” Martinez, Christine Romero, and Barbara Tegtmeier; and his special nephew, Manuel Trujillo III. Each held a meaningful place in David’s life and remains part of the legacy he leaves behind.

David will be remembered as a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, veteran, and neighbor. To his many nieces and nephews, he was a beloved and fun-loving uncle whose warmth, humor, and affection brought joy to countless gatherings and memories. His kind heart, willing hands, and loving personality will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the lives of all who were blessed to know and love him.

Memorial Service will be held on Friday, September 18, 2026 at 12:15pm at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Taos, interment will follow at 2pm at the Taos Veterans Cemetery, located at 65 Paseo de la Barranca.
