Elias "Eli" Romero

Elias “Eli” Romero from Albuquerque, New Mexico passed away peacefully at the V.A. Hospice on December 12, 2025. Elias was raised in Taos where he attended school and graduated from Taos High School. Elias enlisted in the Army and served in Germany. Elias was a mechanic where he lived and was known by his nickname El Mecanico (The Mechanic).

Elias is preceded in death by his parents Alfonso and Juanita Romero; siblings, Tim Romero, who was killed in Vietnam, Clarence Romero, Vicky Romero, Mary Ann Kronggard, and Felix Eloy Romero; nieces Samantha Sandoval and Vickie, nephew Adrien Young Jr.; and his in-laws Modesto and Rosita Cisneros; and brother-in-law James Cisneros.

Elias is survived by his siblings Eileen Hill, Ray (Virginia) Romero, Robert (Merlinda) Romero, Alfonso (Elena) Romero, and Annette Romero (Mike) Suazo; sister-in-law Marilyn Romero; Joyce his wife of 50 years; Sons Brian, Michael, and Marcus Romero; Grandsons Jacob, Isaac Romero; Great-grandson Santino Romero Caggiano; sisters-in-law Jeanette (John) Purcell, Jova (Norman) Sanchez and Janice Cisneros; and many nephews and nieces.

Funeral service will be held on Monday December 22, 2025 at 10am in the Evergreen Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home of Taos, with burial to follow at the Dolores Cemetery in Canon.
