Ernesto B. Montoya

Ernesto Baldamar Montoya, 89 of Des Montes passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, on February 13, 2026. He was born on April 9,1936 to parents, Estrellita and Mardoqueo Lucero and was lovingly raised by his grandparents, Francisquita and Vidal Montoya. He shared 60 years of his life with his wife, Doris Ann Garcia-Montoya, who passed away in 2017. 

Ernesto, fondly known as “Tubb” to many, was a hardworking man who worked diligently and was not afraid of hard work. He never backed down from any challenge and always accomplished what he set out to do. Ernesto’s hard-working hands, sense of humor and loving ways will never be forgotten. We know that those hard-working hands are now in the hands of the Lord. He will always be missed by all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his daughter, Patricia Santistevan, son, Joe H. Montoya and son-in law, Eddie Lucero, parents, Estrellita and Mardoqueo Lucero, grandparents, Francisquita and Vidal Montoya, siblings, Abran Lucero, Esmeralda Romero, Bernabe Martinez, Elsie Medina and Estella Padilla. He was also predeceased by parents-in-law, Ismael Garcia and Annie Oakeley Garcia, sister-in-law, Cecilia Lucero, brothers-in-law, Felix Romero Jr., Max Madrid, Tito Medina Sr., Nicolas Romero, Ellis Garcia (Trina) and Susie Garcia (Moises).

He is survived by his children, Tina Montoya, Teresa Archuleta, Beatrice Lucero, David Montoya (Diane), Marcella (Dave), Vicky Montoya and daughter-in-law, Sandy Montoya Martinez, 22 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, siblings, Vidal Montoya, Faby Montoya, Nancy Madrid, Margarito Lucero, Medardo Lucero, brother-in-law, Nelson Romero sisters- in-law, Maria and Bernice Romero, along with numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
