Evelyn Anaya

Evelyn Anaya, 75, a resident of Taos, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on June 4, 2025.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Loren Anaya, Jr; daughter, Myra Smith; parents, James and Consuelo Duran; and in-laws Loren and Soledad Anaya.

Evelyn was a caring and loving woman who adored and loved all of her family dearly. She was the heart of her home whose love knew no limits. Her kindness wrapped around those she loved like a warm blanket, and her strength was quiet, but unshakable. Whether through a home-cooked meal, a comforting word, or a selfless act, she gave her all without expecting anything in return. Family was everything to her. She celebrated our joys, comforted us in sorrow, and stood by us through every chapter of life. Her legacy is one of unwavering love, deep compassion, and countless small acts of care that made all the difference. 

She didn’t just raise a family, she built a foundation of love that will continue on for generations.

Evelyn is survived by her children, David Anaya (Arnold), Joaquin Anaya (Heather), and Roberto Anaya (Victoria); son-in-law Keith Smith; grandchildren she raised as her own, Gabriel, Jacob and Johnathan; grandchildren, James (Jess), Janice, Joshua, Robbie, Rochelle, Abby, Marissa, Noelle, Natalie, Analeise; great-grandchildren, Elijah, Adrian, Estrella, Santiago, Leo, Emalia, Ayana, Bella and Levi; siblings, Debbie Romero (Tomas), Victor Duran (Carol), James Duran Jr., Sharon Halmstad, Cindy Kyllo (Pat), and Eric Duran (Laverne); plus many nieces, nephews and other loving relatives and friends.

A special thank you to her caretakers Sharon, Amber, and Marie. You weren’t just caretakers—you were companions, friends, and a source of comfort to our mom. Because of you, she had the extra support she needed. You are now and always will be part of our family.

Memorial Services will be held on Friday, June 27, 2025 at 6:00pm in the Evergreen Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home of Taos.
