Jo Gail Tuttle Lowry was born in Gilmer, Texas, September 8, 1935. Only child of Nobie Alton Tuttle & Josephine Sewell Tuttle.
She grew up in east Texas, going to school in Kilgore.
The family moved to Fort Worth, when Jo Gail was about age 12-13.
She attended Rosemont Junior High and Paschall High School in Fort Worth. She played the piano from an early age, even playing the Timpani drums in the high school orchestra. After graduation she attended Mary Hardin Baylor College in Belton, TX for a couple of years, studying music. She met her future husband Montecue Judson Lowry at that time, a career army officer. They were married for about 30 years. They had one child, a daughter, Mary Gail Lowry.
Being an army wife, travel was the norm. Living in a number of states and also in Germany. During these years, Gail played the organ at a number of army chapels and also taught piano lessons. She enjoyed volunteer work.
Eventually settling in Fort Worth, she worked at the Southwestern Theological Baptist Seminary for the music department. Playing for voice lessons and recitals for students. Gail also played organ for a couple of different churches. One being Arlington Heights Christian Church. She spent a number of years as music secretary at University Baptist Church. Gail moved to Red River, NM about 25 years ago to be closer to her daughter and grandchildren. She continued to teach piano lessons, and played the organ at United Church of Angel Fire for a few years. Still enjoying volunteer work. Last church membership was Saint James Episcopal Church in Taos, NM.
Gail passed away March 21, 2026 at Taos Retirement Village in the assisted living facility. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Lowry Peterson (Christopher); grandchildren, Erik Alton Peterson and Katherine Gail Peterson (Kevin Savino-Riker).
