It is with great sadness; the family of Joe Elifas Miera announces his passing at the age of 89.
Born on October 23, 1935 in Amalia, NM. Joe lived a life filled with hard work and dedication to supporting his family.
In his younger years he found joy behind the microphone and the strumming of his guitar. He performed in a few local bands, and played on many small-town stages. Throughout his life he always played music in his pass time.
He loved music, gardening, making tortillas and going for wood. He never stayed still, there was always work to be done. He had a funny sense of humor, always making silly faces and telling riddles and jokes in Spanish.
Joe is survived by his children, Margaret Bazan (Benny), Helen Miera, David Miera (Leotta), Amanda Leon and daughter-in-law Cindy Miera; his grandchildren, Wendy Vigil (Ted), Enrica Garcia (Vince), Nichole Threat (Calvin), Joel Miera (Vanessa) and Julianne Miera; 25 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and many other family and friends.
Joe is preceded in death by his parents Fedelina and Alfredo Miera; 2 sisters and 4 brothers; his wife of 64 years Mary Miera; his son Joe Miera, Jr (Gasper); grandson Jerome Miera; granddaughter Yvonne Maes; and great-granddaughter Isabella Vigil.
The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated staff at the Colfax Miners Retirement Hospital for their exceptional care and support during Joe’s time there.
Although his guitar strings may rest, his melody lives on in all those who knew and loved him.
