John Duncan

d. September 23, 2025

John Duncan passed away peacefully on September 23rd, 2025, at the age of 75, after a lengthy battle with Parkinson's disease. John had been a resident of Taos and the surrounding areas since the 70s and worked in many different fields. He worked as a server at the Taos Inn, as an EMT at the Ski Valley clinic and Holy Cross Hospital, as an herbalist taking people on herb walks, as a social worker at a rehab in Alcalde, at Wild Leaven bakery doing deliveries and finally spent his last good years of health setting up a table at the Taos Farmers Market informing people about mushrooms and socializing. Before this battle, John was robust and full of life and sparkles. John was full of knowledge on a wide range of topics, including philosophy, history, economics, and world events. He had a fiery passion to share his knowledge with any type of person in thoughtful conversation. He knew all about holistic medicine, the Industrial Revolution, the collapse of his hometown, Detroit, and its rejuvenation. He dreamed of living in a cabin in a forest but got derailed by capitalism and sickness. We value you for your heart, John, and for sharing it with those close around you. I would like for people who were friends with John to contact me, Catherine at (575) 770-2624, to organize a celebration of Life together.

John's cremation arrangements are under the direction of the caring staff of DeVargas Funeral Home of Taos. www.devargastaos.com 1-866-657-4019
