John Parker Haynes

d. December 23, 2023

John Parker Haynes, 80 YO, of Carson, NM, passed away peacefully during the night on December 23rd, 2023. Parker was born on October 13th, 1943, to Jack and Ann Haynes in Abilene, TX.

Parker met the love of his life, Linda “Tia” Balo Haynes in S. Dakota, where they married in the early ‘60s. Parker and Tia had one child, Becky Lynn. Parker and his family moved to the Taos, NM area in 1978.

Parker was truly one of a kind - a fierce, passionate, and loyal man. His humor was crass, his knowledge was vast, and his ability to do incredible things with one eye, two strong hands and a sharp mind was unmatched. He and Tia “walked the talk” as they traveled an alternative path, leading the way for others. With shared vision and passion – from the precipice of a new world inhabited and inspired by sustainable building, organic gardening, craftsmanship and hard work – it was this drive and energy that created Parker’s legacy.

Parker loved nature and believed in living simply – always striving to be in harmony with the land he called home. He valued good dirt, good books, good conversation, good beer, and good people. He had little patience for fools, and even less for injustice. Parker’s legacy is one of hard work, dedication, and self-sufficiency.

Parker was loved by so many. He was a loyal and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Parker was always there for a friend in need. He helped build numerous homes in his community, sharing his impeccable craftsmanship and skill. His generosity, intelligence and wit were matched only by his capacity for fierce honesty, and deep love.

Parker’s legacy lives on with his family, many friends, and his greater community – the vision to create a better, sustainable future. Parker is preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife, Tia. He is survived by his daughter, “Becca” Schwilling, and his grandchildren, Mariel Rose Garcia, Jesse Destin Wilson, Rachelle Audri Wilson, Nicollette Renee Schwilling, and Jonathan Scott Schwilling, as well as two great-grandchildren, Eloa Wakemup Garcia and Parker Cade McBride, and his niece, Joy Michelle Wright Bridgford.

Parker is now the wind and the rain, the sun, water, fire, flora and fauna – he is the effervescence of life’s essence. One with all, again one with the light and the darkness. He is the creator, and the created, without separation of this earthly binding. May his spirit know the peace and freedom that his body denied him these last years, and may we all find solace in the knowledge that he’s now in the loving arms of his wife, Tia Haynes…
