Kenneth Martinez, lovingly known as “Shadow,” passed away peacefully surrounded by family on June 5, 2025, at the age of 73.
Born on August 1, 1951, Kenneth was a proud resident of Valdez, NM. A United States Marine and Vietnam Veteran, Kenneth served his country with honor and unwavering dedication. After his service, he pursued his education at Highlands University in Las Vegas, NM, and later began working at Smith’s, where he met his wife, Rosella. Together, they built a life full of love, laughter, and family.
He was an active member of his community, and was a familiar face at the Taos Spa, where he enjoyed staying active and connected. Kenneth also served as a Mayordomo in Valdez at San Antonio Church and in Ranchos de Taos at St. Francisco Church. Beyond this, he was deeply involved with the Acequias Domestic Water Association, the Town of Taos Planning and Zoning, the Taos Council Forum, and various other organizations, dedicating himself to the wellbeing and development of his community.
Kenneth is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents Adolfo Martinez and Frances Lucero; maternal grandparents Tranquilino Vigil and Juanita Santistevan; parents Adolfo Jr. and Virginia Martinez; brothers Michael, Joseph, Francisco “Savage”, and Mark “Med”; his first wife Peggy Romero-Martinez; in-laws Nick and Maxine Martinez, and brother-in-law Joseph.
Kenneth is survived by his beloved wife Rosella Martinez; his daughter Nickol and stepdaughter Vanessa; grandchildren Azalia, Urijah, Raul, Sony and Angelo; and siblings Philip, Rose Mary, Mary, and David; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Kenneth’s strength, sense of humor, handshakes and deep love for his family and community will be missed by all who knew him.
Rosary will be held on Wednesday, June 25, 2025 at 6:00pm. Funeral Mass will be on Thursday, June 26, 2025 at 10:00am, both at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Arroyo Seco. Burial will follow at the Angel Fire Veteran’s Cemetery at 2:00pm.
