Maria Carlota Pacheco

Maria Carlota Pacheco, at the age of 97, stepped into the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Wednesday, March 18, 2026. Carlota was born on December 13,1928 in Penasco, NM to the late Vidal and Doloritas Sanchez.

Carlota was preceded in death by her husband, Hilio Pacheco; her great-granddaughter Shural Pacheco; her brothers – Saturnino Sanchez, Esteban Sanchez, Gilbert Sanchez, Benjamin Sanchez; her sisters – Lucy Visarraga, Rose Lopez (Emiterio), Mary Maestas (Joe), Josefita King, on March 21, 2026, her sister, Eliza Romero, joined her. Her remaining sister Doris Armijo (Anival) at the writing of this obituary is expected to join her soon. The three sisters (Carlota, Eliza and Doris) were remarkably close throughout their lives. While comforting to know they are together, they have left behind a wake of broken hearts that will miss them dearly.

Carlota is survived by her 8 children: Gladys Gurule, Lorraine Graham, George Pacheco (Virginia), Rita Martinez, Paul Pacheco (Tina), Cindy Lopez, Kenneth Pacheco, and Dee Dee Romero (Dennis);18 grandchildren: Craig Gurule, Charles Gurule, Paula Atkinson, Stephanie Graham, Geraldine Gonzales, Geoffrey Pacheco, LuAnne Garcia, Gwen Rupert, Darryl Martinez, Phillip Pacheco, Lisa Romero, Yvette Montoya, Timothy Pacheco, Derek Lopez, Tammy Lopez, Jeremy Pacheco, Amarise Romero, and Jonathon Romero. She was blessed to have 30 great-grandchildren, 12 great-great grandchildren plus countless nephews and nieces.

Her legacy of love, faith and selfless devotion lives on through her family. A commitment of love that started on May 18, 1946, when she married Hilio Pacheco. They were married for 43 years. They raised 8 children in Vadito, NM. After her husband passed, she moved to Pueblo, Colorado to be close to her daughters. She lived independently, making friends wherever she went, until her passing. She will be remembered for her cooking, sewing, dancing and sense of humor. Her endless prayers for her family will live on forever.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Craig Gurule, Geoffrey Pacheco, Charles Gurule, Phillip Pacheco, Darryl Martinez, Timothy Pacheco, Jeremy Pacheco and Jonathon Romero.

Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, March 26, 2026 at 10:00am in the Evergreen Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home of Taos, burial will follow at the Vadito Cemetery.
