Mario E. Martinez, a longtime resident of Las Colonias, passed away on February 2, 2023.  Mario was born on February 24, 1943 to parents, the late Juan B. and Carolina Martinez.

He is survived by his wife Mabel Martinez; granddaughter Angelica Martinez (Angelo Ortiz), who was his love and joy, and who he affectionately called, “Jellybeans”.  Daughters Debbie Chavez (Victor), Louisa Quintana (Herman), and Florina Cordova; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren; his six sisters who loved him dearly, Oclides Gonzales (Frank), Clorinda Gonzales, Florence Quintana (Deacon Jerry), Rose Martinez (Elias), Tillie Valdez (Pete), and Yolanda Martinez; his in-laws, Joe Suazo and Berna Martinez; many nephews and nieces whom he loved dearly; special cousins Jessie and Judy Quintana from Denver, who called him daily.

Mario is preceded in death by his son Mario Jr. (Nono); parents Juan and Carolina; brother Ben Martinez and sister Loretta Suazo; nephews and nieces Cindy Martinez, Jerome Quintana, PJ Valdez, Ivy, Ivan Jr. and Kayla Valerio, Stephanie Francisco and brother-in-law Fred Gonzales.

Mario retired from the United States Forest Service as a successful employee in the Engineering field.  After his retirement, he enjoyed hunting with his son, nephews, and brothers-in-law.  He also enjoyed planting big gardens and would share his produce with family and neighbors.  Mario was involved in his community and was always present to offer support in times of need and to celebrate with friends and neighbors in times of joy.  He was known to check in with family and friends, calling them several times a day.  The daily calls and visits with his family will be greatly missed.

Rosary will be recited on Saturday, February 11, 2023 at 9:00am, followed by the Mass of Resurrection at 10:00am at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Burial will be held at the Arroyo Seco Cemetery at a later date.
