Mariquita Ruth Santistevan

Mariquita Ruth Santistevan, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, caregiver, and friend, was called home to be with God on December 22nd, 2025, at the age of 79. She was born on June 17th, 1946, in Amalia, NM. Mariquita was the epitome of strength, resilience, and heart. In her final moments, she was held close by her family, surrounded by love.

Mariquita was preceded in death by her daughter, Corita; parents, Jose Alcario and Felipita Gallegos; and siblings, Rufinita (Bert) Quintana, Alcarito (Mary Ida), Bennie (Solema), Emily (Sam) Romero, Modesto, and Karl (Peggy).

She is survived by her husband, Dennis C. Santistevan; sons, Dennis (Miriam) and Craig; grandchildren, KC (Erica), Kimberly (Jeremy), JC, and RC; great-granddaughter, Naina; sisters, Avelinda (Elias) Salazar and Margarita (Jerry) Martinez; numerous nieces and nephews; many dear friends; and beloved pets.

Mariquita dedicated her career to nursing, which began in Utah. Her work mirrored her selfless character to always lend a helping hand to anyone that crossed her path. She was a devout and faithful member of the Catholic Church. She was a woman who not only spoke of God’s word but embodied it every single day through her service to others.

She enjoyed gardening at home, planting hollyhocks and daisies, and tending her garden for countless hours. Mariquita was a naturally talented artist and fashionista. However, she was happiest when spending quality time with family and friends. She kept everyone laughing with her sharp wit and quick humor.

Mariquita’s legacy of kindness and laughter will leave an everlasting impression on her family and all who knew her. Her memory will live on through the unforgettable stories shared and the deep love and admiration held for her.

Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, January 9, 2026 at 10:00am, at Sacred Heart Catholic church in Costilla, NM.
