Matthew R. Medina

Our beloved Matthew Randy Medina, 53, of Cañon, Taos, passed away on Saturday, July 25, 2026.

Matthew is survived by his wife, Gina Medina; his mother, Petralina Medina (Tony); his siblings, Michael Medina and Olivia Medina (Marcus); his sisters-in-law, Connie and Marlene; his stepchildren, Lawrance (Chaniece), Stephanie (Jorge), Victoria, Phillip, and Carlos; and his grandchildren, Sophia, Santiago, Alexis, Antonio, Jesse, Antonio, and Maria Cruz. He is also survived by his nephews, Carlos (Ariana), Diego, Antonio, and Miguel; and his niece, Ariana (Aiden).

Matthew was a kind and caring person who opened his heart and home to anyone who needed help, comfort, or a place to escape. Matt's smile was a warm and comforting quality that everyone knew and will remember. The best way to describe him is simple: he was always just Matt. No matter what people said or did, it never affected the way he viewed the world.

Matthew was born and grew up in Taos, New Mexico, with his parents, Petralina and Luis, and his siblings, Michael and Olivia. He was raised in a close-knit, family-oriented home, surrounded by grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Matthew graduated from Taos High School. He later learned the electrical trade and worked alongside his good friend, Jamie. At the age of 27, he began experiencing some challenges in his life. Although this was a significant obstacle, he was able to overcome it. Through hard work and resilience, Matt was once again able to do all the things he loved. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, but fishing was his favorite pastime.

Matt was always willing to help anyone with a job or task. He was a jack of all trades, and if there was something he didn't know how to do, he would learn and give it his all.

Matt lived in Cañon with his father, Luis. He thought very highly of his father and valued his opinion and guidance in every decision he made. Matt met a loving woman, Gina Medina, whom he would later marry and cherish. Although he did not have children of his own, he later helped raise and care for three wonderful boys, Jesus, Manuel, and Armando. He loved having Gina's family and children around and took pride in teaching, guiding, and helping shape them into respectable adults.

Matt will be remembered for his kindness, generosity, resilience, and willingness to help anyone in need. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.

Public Visitation will be held on Monday, August 3, 2026 from 5:00pm to 7:00pm in the Evergreen Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home of Taos. Funeral Service is pending and will be announced as soon as it becomes available.
