Patricio “Pat” Lucio Mondragón was called to his heavenly home on May 16, 2025, at the age of 84. He passed away peacefully in the home he built, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on April 22, 1941, in Talpa, New Mexico, Pat was the eldest son of Palemon and Ofelia Mondragón. He grew up in a close-knit family and spent much of his childhood in the Jicarita herding sheep. Pat graduated from Taos High School and married his high school sweetheart, Molly Montoya. Together they shared a devoted marriage of 63 years.

Pat knew that it was more of a blessing to give than to receive. His generosity knew no bounds. A man of faith, he was deeply caring of others—often visiting family, friends, and neighbors at their homes. His radiant smile lit up any room he entered, and his quick wit, love, and laughter made him a joy to be around.

He was a dedicated worker, spending much of his career as a baker and bakery manager for Safeway and Furr’s before retiring. Pat also had a deep commitment to public service, which was reflected in his long-standing role with the Taos Volunteer Fire Department, where he began volunteering in 1970. Though he eventually retired from active firefighting, his involvement never truly ended—he remained an engaged and supportive member of the department community throughout his life.

Pat had a gift for storytelling—sharing memories, wisdom, and humor with all who would listen. His stories, whether serious or lighthearted, connected generations and brought people together.

He is survived by his loving wife, Molly, and their children: Mark (Lisa) and Andrea (Joshua). He was a proud grandfather to Stephanie (Martin), Leslie (Chris), Estrella, Feliz, Noe, and Nico; and great-grandfather to Tom (Abby), Natalia, Andrew, Allie, Ari Rey, with one great-great-grandson expected in July—whose arrival he joyfully anticipated and who will proudly carry his name.

Pat is also survived by his siblings: Gia (Joann), Porfiria, Delia (Jim), Larry (Yolanda), and Pauline. He is remembered fondly by many loving nieces, nephews, relatives, and special friends. He now rejoices in heaven, reunited with his parents, Palemon and Ofelia, and his sister, Christine.

Services will be held at San Francisco de Asís Church. The rosary will take place on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at 6:00 p.m., followed by a funeral mass on Thursday, May 29, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. Interment will take place at Jesus Nazareno Cemetery, with a celebration of life dinner to follow at the Sagebrush Convention Center.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to Nurse Donna and the compassionate team at Mountain Home Health Hospice for their loving care during Pat’s final weeks. They are also deeply grateful to Joaquin Gonzales and the dedicated staff at DeVargas Funeral Home for their respectful guidance and unwavering support during this time of loss. A special thank you to the Taos Fire Department for their profound act of honor in escorting Pat and assisting with his final transition, your presence brought deep comfort and pride to our family and reflected the spirit of brotherhood Pat cherished throughout his years of service.

In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to honor Pat’s memory by making a donation to the Taos Volunteer Fire Department.

Pat’s legacy of faith, service, gratitude, and kindness will continue to live on in the lives of all who knew and loved him.
