Robert K. Loveless, 85 years young, passed unexpectedly on December 20, 2022 from complications of a fall on December 17. He was born in Fort Worth, Texas to Glorene and Lauris Loveless along with two brothers, John and Kirby (both deceased). Always athletic, he wrestled with Wahoo McDaniel and was a football co-captain with Don Meredith at SMU. Bob went on to play pro-football with the Denver Broncos, “retired,” and started his own tile business, the Loveless Company and a national franchise tile company “Terra Firma Tile.” He and his friend Jesus Garza Arocha from Saltillo, Mexico started making bricks into thinner pavers which became the well-known “Saltillo Tile.” In its heyday Terra Firma was the largest finished hard surface company in America.
Bob and his wife Shelley moved to Taos nearly 40 years ago to “retire” but instead resurrected Loveless Stone and Tile, Inc. and continued to work with many fine builders and designers on beautiful projects. He was a talented stone craftsman who worked on many projects locally, nationally and even internationally. You could always spot a “Bob Loveless Project!”
He leaves his wife of 42 years, Shelley, three sons Kelton (Michelle), Brett (Jonlyn) and Bryan and also Esteban Medina whom he affectionately called his “fourth son.” Bob leaves three beautiful grand-daughters, Julia, Olivia and Addison, a dear cousin Sandra and countless people he always considered his dear friends.
A funeral mass will be held at 10 AM Saturday, January 21, 2023 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Taos.
The family of Robert K. Loveless has entrusted the care of their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home of Taos. 866-657-4019 www.devargastaos.com
