Ronald “Ronnie” Lavin (“Inky”) May 7, 1943 - September 21, 2025

Ronald Lavin, known to most as Ronnie — and to almost everyone in Philadelphia as Inky — passed away suddenly on September 21, 2025, in Taos, New Mexico.

True to form, he was still looking for the next big deal. Born on May 7, 1943, in Philadelphia to Gertrude and Bernard Lavin, Ronnie spent his first days in an incubator — and it was there his father gave him the nickname “Inky,” a name that stuck for life and became how nearly everyone in the Philadelphia area knew him. Ronnie was an acquired taste — sharp-witted, brash, and endlessly enterprising. A natural wheeler and dealer, he built his success in the Philadelphia business world as the owner of Oodles clothing stores and later Inky’s Sandwich Shop on South Street, which — according to him — was “THE BEST.”

After years of fast-paced city life, Ronnie eventually headed west to New Mexico, where he found a different kind of happiness. There, he surrounded himself with open skies, good friends, and the loyal dogs who became his constant companions. He was a man of contrasts — confident and stubborn, but also generous, funny, and full of heart. Those who knew him will remember his stories, his unmistakable presence, and his love for both a good deal and a good dog.

Ronnie is survived by his daughter, Meredith (Michael), and grandchildren Devon, Thai, Sage, and Tristan.

He was predeceased by his ex-wife, Melissa, and his son, Peter.

A gathering to remember Ronnie will be held at his house on Saturday, October 18, at 1 p.m.
