Rose "Rosie" Louise Martinez

Rose “Rosie” Louise Martinez passed away peacefully on Friday, August 8, 2025 in the company of family. She was 78 years old.

Rosie was born in La Puente, New Mexico, the youngest of ten children to Ruben and Rosa Manzanares. She married Patricio (Patrick/Pat) Delfin Martinez of Cañones, NM (near Chama, NM) on July 18, 1966.

Perhaps one of the most profound things about Rose was her deep faith in God and the Catholic Church. She enjoyed attending mass every Saturday evening or Sunday morning. She made sure that her children never forgot about a Holy Day of Obligation. She loved to sing and shared her voice on the church choir for decades. She prayed the rosary and the Chaplet of the Devine Mercy religiously. Her faith was always with her and she passed that on to her children.

Rosie was preceded in death by her parents Ruben & Rosa Louise Manzanares, brothers Ruben Manzanares, Jr. and Morris Manzanares, sisters Pauline Lopez, Evangeline Martinez, Rosalie Vigil, Nora Martinez, and Dolores Gallegos. Parents-in-law Antonio and Anna Maria Martinez, brothers-in-law Lorenzo, Roberto, Donald and Lee Roy Martinez and sister-in-law, Clorinda Nunez.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Patrick D Martinez, children Rose Marie Gonzales (John) of McLean, Virginia, Patricia Herrera (Patrick) of Espanola, NM and Anthony Martinez (Jennifer) of Taos, NM. Her adored grandchildren Neil (Sonya), Felicia Rose, Alicia Marie (Steve), Lillian, Clara Patrice, Nathaniel (Sarae), Michelle, Sarah, Colt, and Nico. She is also survived by her sister Cathy Esquibel (Tony) and Mariano Manzanares (Delia) numerous nieces and nephews

A Rosary will be held on Tuesday, August 19, 2025 at 6:00 PM at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Questa, NM. The Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, August 20, 2025 at 10:00 AM. The burial will follow mass at the cemetery in Cerro, NM. Her grandsons, beloved neighbor John Sanchez and sons-in-law will serve as pallbearers.

The Family of Rose Martinez would like to thank mama’s neighbors, Kim and John Sanchez, the Sanchez Family for looking out for our mama over the years, numerous friends and family who visited her and reached out to us, and the many providers and service workers at the Taos Living Center for all of care and kindness you provided for our mother.
