Steve E. Vigil, 78, a lifelong resident of Arroyo Hondo, New Mexico, passed away on October 23, 2025. He was born to Jose and Macedonia Vigil.
Steve was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1965 and served in Germany as a medic. After returning home, he met and married Lorena Ortega-Vigil, and together they raised five children.
He worked for Molycorp Mine before starting his own business, Arroyo Hondo Electric. Steve was a proud member of the IBEW and later retired from Los Alamos National Laboratory.
Steve and Lorena devoted their lives to their family, caring for their children and grandchildren until Lorena’s passing. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorena; his parents; siblings Alex, Filadelfio, Norberto, Pacomio, and Jose Dolores Vigil; parents-in-law Efren and Ursulita Ortega; and brothers-in-law Frank, Frank Jr., Jake, and Manuel Ortega.
Steve is survived by his children: Joseph Ortega, Macedonia (Wayne), Eligio (Susanna), Ursulita (Larry), and Estevan (Daisy); and by his grandchildren, who were his pride and joy: Jesyka (Johnny) Pacheco, Samuel, Brandon (Jennifer), Mathieu McCarson, Evan Torres, Justin, Jaklynne, Ashlei, Yvangelene, Marysol, and Araceli Vigil, as well as his great-grandson Giovani McCarson.
He is also survived by his sisters Maximiana Vigil and Juana Jaramillo, his brother Ben (Maria) Vigil, and many beloved relatives and friends.
The family would like to extend a special thank-you to Flora Trujillo for her kindness and help in taking Steve to his appointments. He cherished your train ride together in the pouring rain.
Rosary will be recited on Friday, November 7, 2025, at 6:00 pm at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Arroyo Hondo, NM. Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, burial to follow at the Rael Cemetery in Arroyo Hondo, NM.
