Arturo Eleuto Romero, age 88, a resident of Llano Quemado, went home to the Lord peacefully on December 4, 2021 surrounded by his loving family.
Arturo was born August 25, 1933 to Jose E. and Clorinda V. Romero and grew up learning farm life but always yearned to do something else. Arturo enlisted February 9, 1954 and proudly served in the United States Marines for 21 years retiring on September 24, 1973 as a GySgt. During his military time, he traveled to many states and countries. He was a combat veteran during The Korean Conflict, Vietnam War, and The Cuban Crisis earning numerous decorations for valor and meritorious service. He was a member of The American Legion Post 16.
He was married to Alice Sanchez (Romero) for 38 years. They had five children: Carmen (Sam), Raymond (Lori), Lena, Yvonne and Isaac (Arlene); and son Julian Struck (Kim).
Arturo was always known for his jokes, funny stories and magic tricks. Amongst friends, he always enjoyed a good game of pool, loved fishing and the outdoors.
Arturo is preceded in death by his parents Jose E. & Clorinda V. Romero, wife Alice, daughter Lena, brothers Anselmo, Leonardo (Bertha), John (Rose), infant brother Jerry; sisters Tomasita Hansen (Eddie), Mary Montaño (Charles), Lillie Jaramillo (Lee), Archie Abeyta (Nelson), Connie Ortega, nephew Joseph who he considered a brother, and brother-in-law Al Anaya.
He is survived by his brother Wilfred Romero (Brenda), sisters Dolores Lopez (Robert), Paz Anaya, Navi Baca (Victor), and brother-in-law Dennis Ortega; 15 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews, friends and family members.
Funeral Service is scheduled January 7, 2022 at 10 a.m. in the Evergreen Chapel of DeVargas Funeral Home of Taos, followed by a memorial lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at The Sagebrush Inn. Interment at the Santa Fe National Cemetery will follow at 3 p.m. with full military honors.
