Julie Anne Burke, a resident of Taos, NM unexpectedly passed away on March 26, 2022.  She was born on October 11, 1966 at Ft. Benning, GA.

She is survived by her father, James Burke; mother Carol Burke; sister Jennifer Hixon; stepmother Sharon Burke; mother’s partner Gilbert Kirchoff; nephew Maxwell Hixon and niece Chloe Hixon.

Julie attended Ft Hunt High School in Alexandria, VA.  In her young years, she was very active in sports and was a catcher on a softball team in Virginia.  She attended Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan with a full scholarship because of her talent playing the Bassoon.  She graduated from Catholic University in Washington, DC receiving a Bachelor and Masters Degree in Social Work.  She was a Licensed Clinical Social Worker.  Julie was employed by Hermann Memorial Hospital in Houston, TX until September 2021.  She moved to Taos, NM in September 2021 and took a position at Holy Cross Hospital.  Julie was a loved friend to many and a dedicated worker.  She always gave more than she received.  She was a breast cancer survivor.  She, her mother and sister completed a 5-day survivor walk several years ago.  Julie and her stepmother, also a breast cancer survivor, when undergoing treatments, dubbed them the “Chemosabes”.  Julie touched many lives through her involvement with Alcohol Anonymous, Animal Rescue and Mercy Street Church in Houston, TX.  She also loved outdoors, especially the Southwest.  She spent many days in her early life going on multi-day hunting trips during her father’s Army days at Ft. Bliss, TX.  We miss her.
