Lesley Curry

d. October 2, 2021

Lesley Curry, 71, a former Taos resident and Taos Canyon woodworker, died suddenly on Oct. 2, 2021.  He and his wife Helen were visiting Taos from their home in Arizona.  In addition to Helen, he is survived by his daughter Rhea Hill, his son Zane Curry, his grandson Luka Curry, his brother Arden, along with many dear friends from around the world who shared a life of adventure with a truly one-of-a-kind spirit.

Lesley Curry was a creator, a storyteller, and an unapologetically authentic man who above all sought two things in life, love and joy.  He would often say, “Love is all there is”.  During his 71 years he both gave and received love in equal measure, at times with grace and ease, and at times with timidness and caution.  In his highest of highs and lowest of lows he never wavered in his faith that Love would rise above all else. Those who knew him well are sure to smile when reflecting on how bright his light would shine when he was centered in his joy.

As a creator, Lesley Curry was almost unbounded in his gifts.  Some might see him as jack-of-all trades, but a more fitting characterization would be a man whose curiosity and problem solving meshed in the pursuit of simplicity.  From woodworking to his days as a sea captain, and numerous other professional pursuits he could quickly understand what needed to be done, and paired goals at hand with an artful mind.

The memories Lesley Curry left behind for all who survive him are especially poignant in the area of storytelling.  A great storyteller must have a wealth of life experiences in order to convey times, places, and people with the vivid color that they deserve.  At this Lesley Curry was gift to us all.  He absorbed all his countless adventures fully, and from the heart with a desire to share.

To honor our dearly departed, Lesley Curry, please find love and joy, share them both freely, and meet the world around you with most authentic self.
