Nancy B. Nesbit

d. June 21, 2020

Nancy Nesbit, Age 75, of Ranchos De Taos passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on Sunday, June 21, 2020.  Born on May 1, 1945 in Ohio, she was the daughter of William and Minnie Elizabeth Brydges.  Nancy is survived by her daughter, Sarah, son-in-law, Alejandro and grandson, Nicholas.  She is also survived by her sisters, Ann Blackmar and Alice Brydges, niece, April Martinez, nephew, Michael Martinez, many aunts, uncles and cousins, and her “adopted” granddaughter, Emma Brown.

After attending New Mexico Highlands and a brief stay in New York, Nancy moved to Taos in 1970 where she developed incredible people skills by working at the Gas Company, Decker Communications, Suazo Construction and finally, Phoenix Mechanical where she has worked for the past 16 years.  Her customers were family to her and she always fiercely protected their interests and saw that they felt valued and loved.

To her friends, she was a giver of great hugs.  She was capable of sensing everyone's mood and emotional state and was always sympathetic and kind.  However, when people needed straightening out, she wasn't shy about that chore either.  She was a champion for many non-profits and causes through donations and support.  She was a voracious reader and would go to the library most Saturdays after dropping by the Farmer's Market.  She donated to Taos School of Music, bought season tickets, encouraged others to go to the concerts and attended almost every performance for many years.  She was a cat lover which her five adopted cats can attest to.  She loved singing with the Taos Community Chous where she was a pillar in the alto section; always knowing every note and striving to keep the altos moving and following the conductor's baton.  One of her greatest joys was traveling with friends to choral workshops in the US, England, Italy and the Czech Republic to make beautiful music.

Nancy called Sarah the light of her life and had unconditional love and admiration for her, extending to Alejandro and Nicholas. With her strength, sense of humor and optimism during her life and illness, she was a perfect example for enjoying life to the fullest.

Nancy will be greatly missed by both family and friends.  Every time we see a beautiful sunset, get together for a meal, hear inspiring music, eat a garden fresh tomato or peach or just need someone to talk with, we will think of Nancy.

In lieu of flowers, Nancy asked that donations be made to Stray Hearts Animal Shelter (StrayHearts.org), or Taos Community Chorus (TaosChorus.org).

The family of Nancy Nesbit has entrusted the care of their loved one to DeVargas Funeral Home of Taos.  866-657-4019 www.devargastaos.com
