Pedro Elizario Chavez, 77, passed away on February 14, 2021.   A resident of Llano Quemado, he is preceded in death by his parents Blas Sr. and Fedelina Chavez; In-laws Palemon and Ofelia Mondragon; brother Blas Chavez Jr.; brothers-in-law Lawrence Santistevan and Pat Sandoval; and sisters-in-law Ruby Chavez, Francis Chavez, and Christine Vargas.

He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years Porfiria Chavez; children Anthonette Chavez (Enrique), Leonel Chavez (Alfred), Herbert Chavez (Fatima), Esther Winter (Joseph), and Mario Chavez; grandchildren Arriana Chavez (Sammy), Elizabeth Winter, Krista Chavez (Michael), Alyssa Chavez (Quinn), Gabriela Winter, Kalino Ruiz, Alexa Winter, and Saharra Waldrep; siblings Gabriel Chavez (Josie), Tomasita Santistevan, Lucaria Sandoval, Miguel Chavez, Faustina Madrid (Abel), and Roberto Chavez (Teofista); siblings-in-law Pat Mondragon (Molly), Gia Mondragon (Joanne), Dilia Jordan (Jim), Larry Mondragon (Yolanda), David Vargas, and Pauline Trujillo; and many special nephews, nieces, relatives, and friends.

Pedro was a veteran of the United States Air Force.  Post military service he completed various trade schools and owned and operated a plumbing and welding company until his retirement.   He loved to travel, and he and his wife enjoyed many domestic and international vacations.  An avid reader with a keen interest in history and biographies, Pedro was an expert on all things related to the U.S. Civil War and had visited most of its battlefields, parks, and monuments.

Pedro will be fondly remembered for his generosity.  He welcomed everyone into his home and spoiled his family with daily breakfast.  His grandchildren were his world and he showered them with an abundance of love, imparting knowledge to them at any opportunity, and was very patient with the numerous pets they brought on their visits.

Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, February 24, 2021 at 10:00 AM at the San Franciso de Asis Catholic Church. Due to COVID 19 restrictions a limited amount of seating will be available.  Burial will be held on Friday, February 26, 2021 at the Santa Fe National Cemetery.
